Vector 3020P combines two cutting technologies on a single 3000×2000 mm work area: a plasma head with a Hypertherm MaxPro 200 power source and an oxy-fuel head from Harris. The heads operate alternately — the operator selects the required technology based on the material and workpiece thickness. Plasma is used for fast cutting of thin and medium sheet metal, including carbon steel, stainless steel, and non-ferrous metals. The oxy-fuel torch is designed for working with thick carbon steel plates. One work area for two cutting technologies means the facility gains the capability to perform a wide range of tasks without purchasing separate plasma and oxy-fuel equipment.
Key Advantages of the Vector 3020P:
- The plasma and oxy-fuel heads are mounted on a shared motion system. Switching between them is done manually or by program — neither head operates simultaneously with the other. When a sheet of steel needs fast cutting, the plasma comes into play. If a part needs to be cut from a thick plate, the operator activates the oxy-fuel head. All the motion mechanics remain shared, simplifying the design and reducing equipment cost compared to two separate machines.
- The 200 A plasma power source is designed for continuous operation with high efficiency. It maintains a stable arc even with fluctuations in mains voltage, which is particularly important in real production environments. The automatic Torch Height Controller (THC) adjusts the arc voltage to maintain a constant distance between the torch and the metal surface, compensating for sheet unevenness. This not only improves edge quality but also protects the nozzle and electrode from premature wear due to contact with the workpiece.
- The Harris oxy-fuel torch enables cutting carbon steel of substantial thickness. This is a solution for facilities working with heavy plate: manufacturing flanges, base plates, and machinery components. Oxy-fuel cutting does not require the same level of air filtration as plasma and is cost-effective for large thicknesses.
- The machine frame is a fully welded steel structure, stress-relieved and machined in a single setup. The work table is an independent, self-supporting structure, mechanically decoupled from the gantry rails. This means the weight of heavy sheets does not affect the guideway geometry or the positioning accuracy of the plasma torch. Servo motors on all axes ensure fast positioning and smooth motion.
- The work table is equipped with an extraction system featuring automatic pneumatic opening of individual zones. Extraction is activated only under the section of the table where cutting is currently taking place. This increases fume removal efficiency and reduces the load on the fan. A water tray and pull-out slag drawers are provided for waste collection.
